Digital photography class starts Thursday at library

The West Chester Library will be hosting a two-part digital photography class that is designed to help novice digital photographers hone their skills. The program, “Basics to Better Pictures,” begins Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. That first class will outline the basic operation of a digital camera and introduce participants to three steps that will improve pictures immediately. The second class, which will place from 7 to 9 p.m. March 1, will cover composition and the basics of using light in photography.
Liberty Twp. teen center to host Band Night

At least three bands will be featured Saturday at a Liberty Township teen center.
The EDGE Teen Center will host at least three bands, each with a different sound, as Part of Band Night. The evening begins at 7 p.m. and continues until midnight, at the center, 7568 Wyandot Lane, near Lakota East High School’s freshman campus.
Lakota West advances past Western Hills 61-21

Behind a strong defensive effort, Lakota West stormed into Friday’s Division I sectional finals – defeating Western Hills by the score of 61-21 Tuesday. Using a pressuring defense, the Firebirds (14-8 overall, 7-7 in the Greater Miami Conference) held Western Hills to 26.7 percent shooting and forced 33 turnovers.
Temperatures to reach 60 degrees before cold front arrives

The calendar clearly shows it’s still winter, but the forecast feels more like spring. The high temperature today and Thursday will soar to near 60 degrees under a mix of sun, clouds and slight chance for a bit of rain, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. That’s a good 15 degrees or so above the normal high of 45 for this time of year.
Package found at Boehner’s office nothing dangerous

A suspicious package discovered Tuesday afternoon at House Speaker John Boehner’s office in West Chester Township turned out to be nothing dangerous, police told The Cincinnati Enquirer. A Hazmat crew was called to the scene about 3:30 p.m. after a call from a member of Boehner’s staff.
Mandel visits West Chester and receives endorsement

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel – the front-runner for the GOP Senate nomination – spoke to local Tea Party activists at Voice of America Park's Ronald Reagan Lodge in West Chester Monday. That same morning Mandel received an endorsement from the Tea Party Express, the nation’s largest tea party political action committee.
Early postseason exit puts a damper on season

After reaching the elite eight at the state tournament last season, Lakota East’s eight-member senior class had high expectations for the 2011-2012 season. However, due to injuries and an early postseason exit, those expectations were not fulfilled. This past Saturday, Lakota East was upset by Hamilton by the score of 51-39. In the regular season, the Thunderhawks defeated Hamilton twice by a combined 41 points. In the postseason loss, a short-handed Lakota East team was outscored 32-15 in the second half.
Heritage Foundation’s Matt Mayer to speak at tonight’s West Chester Tea Party meeting

Matt Mayer of the Heritage Foundation will be the featured speaker at Tuesday’s West Chester Tea Party meeting held at 5430 West Chester Road. The meeting begins at 7 p.m., while registration and networking will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mayer will be speaking on his upcoming book “Taxpayers Don’t Stand a Chance: How Battleground Ohio Loses No Matter Who wins.”
Lakota kindergarten registration begins Feb. 27

Children living in the Lakota Schools who will be 5-years-old by Sept. 30 may begin registering for kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year Feb. 27. All children will be registered at the Lakota Enrollment Center, 8735 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, in West Chester Township. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Feb. 29, March 7, 14 and 21.
