NEW YORK - Cablevision subscribers were scrambling Sunday to hook up antennas or find live TV on the Internet in order to watch the Academy Awards after ABC's parent company Walt Disney Co. switched off its signal in a dispute over fees.
The standoff affected 3.1 million subscribers to Cablevision Systems Corp. in parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
In dueling statements, the companies traded blame for the standoff ahead of one of the most-watched nights of television. It was the first time in a decade that a major broadcast station went dark in a dispute with a cable company.
"Cablevision has once again betrayed its subscribers," said Disney spokeswoman Charissa Gilmore. "Cablevision pocketed almost $8 billion last year, and now customers aren't getting what they pay for ... again."

The tone adopted by director Joe Johnston ("Jurassic Park III") is oppressive to the point of suffocating. Sure, the players here are swept up in the story of a man bearing a horrible curse, so you don't expect them to be having fun. But they don't have to be so funereal about it.

VAIL VALLEY - Robert Redford, Terry Tempest Williams and Rachel Carson - these and other icons of the environmental movement will be featured in three films that will be shown at an environmental film festival in the Vail Valley.
Local nonprofits are hosting the festival at E-Town in Edwards on Wednesday and at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek on Thursday.
On Wednesday, there will be happy hours drink specials at E-Town beginning at 8 p.m. At 8:30, watch the film "Forever Wild," a documentary about America's wilderness and its heroes that is narrated by Robert Redford. It will be followed by "Generations," a short film describing the impact of climate change on the ski industry. This evening is sponsored by the Hidden Gems Wilderness Campaign, Snowboard Outreach Society and E-Town.

There were more "environmental refugees" in the world than refugees from political or religious persecution, according to an article by the United Nations University.
An environmental refugee is a person displaced by an environmental disaster that's caused by climatic change. The U.N. says there are now more than 25 million climate refugees in the world; that number is projected to grow to 50 million within five years.
What happens when an entire country goes underwater? Nash traveled to the Pacific island of Tuvalu, which many believe would be the first to disappear if sea levels rise.

Boulder film festival to honor Alec Baldwin

BOULDER, Colo. - Boulder International Film Festival organizers say actor Alec Baldwin will be the featured guest at the sixth annual festival.
The event runs Feb. 11-15, and Baldwin is scheduled to receive the festival's 2010 Award for Excellence in Acting on Feb. 14.
The star of "30 Rock" is co-hosting the Academy Awards in Los Angeles on March 7 with actor Steve Martin.
